Tutoring for Tiffin is very popular in our Kingston groups. At Elevate Eleven we use a wide range of resources to embed understanding of maths and English and to practise exam technique for Tiffin and the local independent schools. However, not all pupils have tutoring to get into these sought after schools and either use the exam as a ‘practice’ exam or they may have tutoring to consolidate learning to get into the higher groups in the local comprehensives as well.
We are NOT a hot house tutoring company with hours and hours of homework as we recognise that children need to be children. If they need so many hours of additional work now, how are they going to keep up when they are at the school? A certain amount of the right pressure can build resilience so we make sure that we give them enough to do – and that can vary from child to child!
We recognise, however, that Tiffin is a challenge to get into as there are very few places available for the numbers of children who apply. We offer maths that extends beyond the primary school curriculum, in-depth comprehension practice with more involved answers and we also teach various forms of structured creative writing responses.
You can help your child yourself in the process by being interested in their learning, encouraging them to read a variety of books, extend vocabulary with games and help them to mark their work, highlight gaps and do further practice on weak areas.
Please read our course structure to find out more.
We use a variety of locations in the area including schools, community centres and church halls. All are appropriate spaces for small group tutoring, are well heated and have ample toilet facilities. School-based groups are open to children from all schools (unless otherwise stated) and not just those at the school being used.
The use of particular locations changes every year, varying with demand, tutor availability, location availability, etc. Hence, whilst we endeavour to keep this information up to date, please check with us to find out the current situation. In all cases, even if a group is marked as fully booked, please contact us as we may be able to create two groups
